ASYLUM OF DARKNESS **** U.S.A. 2017 Dir: Jay Woelfel 117 mins
Dwight Stroud (Nick Baldasare) is a man suffering with his own madness in a mental asylum. He thinks that escaping the madness within the asylum will free his mind, but what awaits him in the real world is far more maddening then he could ever dream of. Having now made his escape he ends up living the life of a man who he met on his escape but around every corner there is something after him trying to make Dwight be the man he really is.
Tiffany Shepis (MODEL HUNGER) appears throughout as a love interest of Dwight's with the full reveal of who she really is coming in the final act of the movie. Look out for Tim Thomerson as a private detective who funnily enough is wearing a trench coat much like his character Jack Deth in the TRANCERS series of movies. ASYLUM OF DARKNESS also stars the late Richard Hatch (who most will remember as Captain Apollo from the t.v. series Battlestar Galactica (1978 -1979)) as Dr. Shaker. There is some great looking practical effects especially for the humanoid creatures chasing Dwight. This film was written and directed by Jay Woelfel and is kind of a throwback to t.v. movies of the 1990's, everything from the look to the way it is shot is of that decade. It is a film that could be done with editing down as at nearly 2 hours long some scenes do drag on a bit and don't really add anything to the story or characters. Ultimately if you are looking for something not of the norm and want to experience the madness within check out this film.
